Rotary Club of Floyd Awarded Community Project Grant

The Rotary Club of Floyd has been awarded a grant of $1500 by District 7570 Rotary International Organization. This is a matching grant in which the local club will match $1500 bringing the total to $3000.

The Rotary Club of Floyd in partnership with New River Valley Community Action plan to use the grant money to expand the back pack program in the schools. Back packs filled with food are provided to students to take home on Friday. This ensures that children will have food over the weekend. Children then return the empty backpacks on Monday. The goal is to increase the program by 10 to 15%.

The selection committee was impressed with the object and scope of the project and the benefit to the community. This project was one of four awarded out of forty applications. The selection committee felt that this project was in keeping with the intent of the Rotary Foundation District Simplified Grants program.
